Supergirl, I agree with looking at how Julie, Maggie/Mickey were used in their children's stories and such as the direction the vets should be taken.

Great line.

I do think Bo and Hope have had a lot of story, and that their last few have been really lame. They should have had a more angsty reunion story after night time Hope/Carly, but I can't see them being broken up anymore. I think they should be supporting players though. But I can understand PR not really wanting to stick around for that. And, as Lysie pointed out, there's just no one of much interest to whom to hand the torch. I am actually not that into Will, but I think he could be decent, but I find this EJ disciple thing stupid, and I'm not interested. I think Abby had major potential too, and she's supercouple spawn, but you can't go back, and not getting into some deep stuff with her after the Austin thing and putting her in a lame angst/tension free insta love (the second, actually, as Chad was about the same) has already been done to her, and that hurts. I have a hard time believing Cameron's going to become interesting. Man, he is dull. But, yeah, EJ, Sami and company are going to keep holding the torch they've already held too long anyway.

Bo's not my favorite, but I've certainly had times of loving him over the years, but I just can't be as upset about this as I am about MA. This is PR's choice, and it sounds like he was basically told he can return if he feels like it.

The thing that really burns me though, is that SC and even GG and EM aren't all that much younger than, especially MA, but also PR, yet they remain. Though Dan, Rafe, and Brady are generic and bland. I guess they fit the stereotypical soap hunk mold, but I don't care one iota about that. I don't know if I find them attractive. I can't even tell because I hate seeing them too much to notice if they are.

And MR is no young ingenue, but yet she remains to play the moving on from Jack story again. Lame.
I would say GG, AS and JS are quite a bit younger than PR who is 57. Galen is 41, AS is 35 and JS is 33. That is quite a difference. That being said, age doesn't need to be a factor as long as the writing and good stories are there. Drake is about the same age as PR, but is apparently willing to accept a backburner storyline; PR wasn't. I will miss Bo and PR, but honestly the writing for the character hasn't been there for quite awhile.
I didn't mention AS or JS.

MA's got ten years on GG and PR has about 15, but GG's sure not young.

SC is my biggest gripe when it comes to this though. Why keep an older character who doesn't have strong ties (and sucks) while getting rid of the vets in a similar age range?

As much as I love the 80's characters, I think the torch-passing should have started in earnest about a decade ago.
I think the show tried to pass the torch, but they don't have compelling characters to fill the void. I think they've wasted the potential of so many characters by forcing them into insta-romances or bad triangles, so that the only thing that seems important about them is who they are sleeping with (or want to sleep with). There are such obvious storylines for characters like Chad and Sonny that would focus on their coming to terms with what being a DiMera or Kiriakis means (including their facing the less-than-savory side of Stefano's and Victor's actions). Maybe one of the younger cast members could actually get a job and plan on a profession, rather than them constantly getting these two-month, plot-driven stints as models or "CEOs" of businesses for which they are wholly unqualified.

Plus TPTB seem insistent on casting actors based mostly on their looks, so we get complete personality vacuums with characters they insist on pushing to the forefront (Chad and Gabi, I'm looking at you), and are shocked when one of the young actors actually has talent like Kate Mansi or Chandler Massey.

I'm a little jaded about young DiMera/Kiriakis characters, because the potential was there with the Philip and EJ characters, and they really didn't do much that was interesting with it. Days' moral compass is so effed up, the potential for drama from that has softened. If I were writing, I'd grab on to Nick's post-prison story and milk it for all it's worth, because it's more of a personally defined struggle. Similarly with Stephanie, her "misdeeds" and downfall were personal and to see her try to rebuild from that might be interesting.

Might be fun to have a young tycoon type who built his own fortune, and going head to head with EJ or Philip who are encumbered with all of their family baggage.

I thought it was a really classy interview. I enjoyed reading what he had to say.

Daysofold

I agree, it was a classy interview. I've stopped recording the show. Will only watch Bope scenes on YouTube until he leaves. TPTB are too dumb and arrogant to realize what they've done by letting Peter go. So glad I don't have to FF through the EJ/Sami show. Don't even recognize Days anymore. Such a shame. I wish Peter well and only the best for Kristian.
